SANTACO Road safety support

Written by SANTACO

At the launch of the Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele's festive season road safety campaign, SANTACO President AJ Mthembu said SANTACO is worried about the present situation of road carnage in our country and more concerned that South Africans had continued to blame government initiatives to fight road safety without contributing any efforts that would equally achieve the same intended objectives.  AJ Mthembu said, it was quite ironic that countries that produce high speed vehicles mostly found on our roads and involved in road accidents experience lesser accidents compared to South Africa.  He added that the taxi industry had noted its contribution to the increasing road carnage and had consequently reinforced its road safety campaign by launching a Training Academy in Welkom that will be in full operation in 2012.  Mr Mthembu said, the Training Academy will focus on the mindset change and soft skills to ensure that taxi drivers understand the responsibilities that come with ferrying the public.  He called on South Africans to support the taxi industry's Hlokomela campaign by reporting bad driving and vehicles that are a safety hazard at the SANTACO Call Centre.  AJ Mthembu said SANTACO had embarked on joint operations with law enforcement in preparation for the coming festive season.  The Call Centre number is 0860 726 822.
